TinyThings

Obeying the laws of the land is one thing I've usually tried to do. So when it was made illegal to hold  a cell phone to your ear or text message while you drive, I acquired one of those devices that let you use your phone hands free.

My model operates the phone by voice recognition, meaning I don't need to touch my cell phone at all. It does what I tell it to do, and it works without wires, referred to as bluetooth technology. This device will work up to a 10 yard radius from the phone. Just amazing shit for a guy who thought the CB radio was the cat's ass in communications some 40 years ago.

Of course there were some drawbacks. That thing was a foreign object sticking in my ear and it bothered the hell out of me. I couldn't seem to hear properly because my stereo hearing was sacrificed, and it was tiny. How the hell was I to keep track of where it was when it wasn't in my ear?

Eventually I got used to it, so used to it, that I usually forgot about this alien invader stuck in my ear. Imagine my dismay when my phone starts ringing and I stick my finger right into my ear. I have to push a button on my bluetooth to answer calls, but that tiny gadget wasn't there.

To make matters worse, I can't manually answer the phone because it's still communicating with the missing bluetooth. I need that device to operate the phone so I pulled over and proceed to scour the interior of my car for this thing. No luck! It's tiny and it's black, and it's dark outside.  Finally I decided to head home knowing this thing is within 10 yards of my now temporarily useless phone.

I got into my apartment which is far enough away from my car and tried to use my phone again. Unbelievably these two pieces of machinery are still talking to each other, which means that darned little bluetooth is still within 10 yards of the phone.

I searched my pockets, jacket, shoes, socks, even inside my gitch. No bluetooth! I was at my wits end when I decided to quit looking, so I turned the device off on my phone thinking it was hopelessly lost somewhere.

As soon as I settled into my armchair I noticed a tiny little lump in the sleeve of my sweatshirt. Now there is another puzzle to solve. How the hell did this godforsaken tiny little bluetooth get from my ear to there?
